I am pooped after an afternoon of art supply shopping. I only had to go to two places but it was somehow quite exhausting.
Items purchased: Wooden sculpting tool, small and large ceramic loops, fettling knife, putty knife, wax modeling tools, sketchbook, uhu stick, ph neutral glue, bone folder, flipbooks, art supply case, mounting board, tiny jar, self-healing cutting surface, med. vine...

I GOT INTO DRAWING FOR ANIMATORS!
I am sooooooo happy! Not only am I in 4 classes (soon to be in 5 because I need a Time class), but one of them is an animation class. And I was so worried I wouldn’t get in that I’m pretty sure I looked like a kid in a candy factory (or child-me in a potato chip factory) when my professor told me I was in.
The class seems like it will be both...

Hello, Byzantium
I was kind of hesitant about my Early Christian and Byzantine Art class (I’d signed up for it mostly because it was not filled while I was registering), but the first day has eliminated that hesitation. It turns out my professor is a Byzantinist (I didn’t even know that was a thing) and is very passionate about all things Byzantine. I often feel like the quality of a class is...

Huzzah! Today was a GREAT picker-upper after yesterday’s Day of Disappointments (did I mention that in the second class I went to yesterday, a million waitlisted students showed up and the professor said he couldn’t let in a single one of us?).
I had my first scriptwriting class! The professor seems good, and there are tons of nice people and nice vibes. The sense I get is that...

Alas, no Digital Illustration for me. I wasn’t really expecting to get in before today, but unfortunately I got my hopes up at the start of class. Even though there had been a huge waiting list, only one unregistered person other than myself actually showed up, and for the first ten minutes there was even an unfilled spot in the class! And the professor seemed really cool, and I was getting...

"Beauty and the Beast" Needs No Revamping
Here’s the bottom line: The 3D rarely enhances your favorite old Disney gems, and at times is even clunky to the point of being distracting. The Movie People (whoever makes money from movies; I don’t know) are just trying to rake in the big-bucks through as little work and creativity possible (as if it isn’t enough that most movies aimed at children or families these days are...

Cultural Education Via Food
I’ve had two enlightening cuisine experiences this week!
The first experience was having lunch with Anne at a restaurant downtown called Kaze Shabu-Shabu. A shabu-shabu is a type of Japanese hot pot. The term is actually an onomatopoeia for the swish-swish noise of food being stirred around in broth. The tables at the restaurant all had hot-pots build into the tabletop. We ordered our soup...

I tried to write something poignant about the transition between winter vacation at home and being on my own in Boston, but after multiple attempts I think I just have to accept the fact that although I have a lot of good strong emotions and thoughts about the matter right now, I am just too sleepy to express them well, and the fact that this is all one massive run-on sentence proves it. To sum up...

Pencil - a traditional 2D animation software →
I’ve been playing with this little free animation software and I find it pretty satisfying. It’s a really simple, basic program, but I like the way that it mimics the look of pencil-drawn sketches; I feel like I can draw in a more natural style with Pencil than with Flash. Obviously Flash is a much more complex program and allows for all different sorts of control over the way your...

Happy Hanukkah (or whichever way you prefer to spell it)! My mom and I made oodles of latkes tonight and they were DELICIOUS! I must admit it: I think latkes are one of my favorite parts of Judaism.

It’s always so wonderful to come home and soak up some good cozy family time. So far good cozy family time has involved fires in the fireplace, ice cream, old friends, bakeries, running around with my crazy dog, decorating the house for the holidays, lamb chops, roasted potatoes, simple yet insanely tasty pasta, The Muppets, 30 Rock reruns, old Friends reruns, lots of tea, and crossword...
