Hoo boy, here we go. 87 degrees, 55% humidity. Can I just…not…wear clothes?
Beginnings: Marjane Satrapi
I heard Marjane Satrapi speak at the MFA recently and it was just fantastic. She is so smart, eloquent, insightful and funny no matter what subject she is talking about. She spoke about her past, her art, her views on art, and her own political and cultural philosophies. It felt informal, like she was just conversing with the audience, yet at the same time it was completely captivating.

My animation class went to the zoo! It was so nice. The Franklin Park Zoo itself may be a bit crappy but being there was total finals therapy; the sun was shining, the animals were animally, we practically had the whole place to ourselves and thus it was peaceful, and we were only expected to be minimally productive. Originally, the goal was to go and do live sketches and rough animations of the animals, but since we were all so sleep-deprived and easily distracted, we just took reference videos to use later, which was enough. It was a great little escape and bonding experience before we had to return to our animation caves.
Oh man, the Art Institute of Boston has scheduled a last minute event for this Friday where a story supervisor for Disney Pixar’s BRAVE will give a presentation on animation production from start to finish. I don’t know if I will be able to go, but it sounds so cool…
